Q: When and where will I be able to get LightScribe?

A: LightScribe enabled products are available at major computer and consumer electronics outlets and via online shopping.

  • Click on “Products" for a list of current LightScribe enabled hardware, software and media.
  • Look for LightScribe logo on retail packaging to identify LightScribe-enabled products. LightScribe enabled discs also display the LightScribe logo on the inner “hub” of the disc itself.
  • Download LightScribe software upgrades from SW manufacturers' websites.

Q: Will I need to purchase a new LightScribe DVD drive when the new media with the speed enhancement is available in the market?

A: LightScribe has announced a speed enhancement to be available in early 2006. The enhancement comes from changes made to the discs themselves, and these new media (MV1.2) will be compatible with the existing drive. So if you were to buy a drive now, you would be able to take advantage of the faster discs when they are available.

Q: Will there be a software update required to take advantage of the speed enhancements?

A: The faster MV1.2 media was released in 2006. You will need to Update your LightScribe System Software to recognized this media. Universal versions of the most recent release are available in our Download section.

Q: Does LightScribe print in full color?

A: No, currently the LightScribe label is created in grayscale, similar to a black and white photograph.

Q: Are LightScribe compatible dual layer high capacity DVDs available?

A: YES! LightScribe DVD+R DL media has been recently released by Verbatim.  Please contact Verbatim or your favorite channel vendor to obtain this new dual layer LightScribe media.

Q: Will LightScribe support the Microsoft Vista operating system?

A: All downloads in our Windows section are now Vista compatible.
