LightScribe Enabled Drive

You must have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive (either built into your desktop or notebook PC or an external drive).

To see if you have a LightScribe-enabled disc drive, look for the LightScribe logo (see picture at the right of this text).

Notebooks and some computers that use slim drives may not have enough space on the drive tray for the LightScribe logo, but a sticker should be attached to the computer.

You can also easily identify these drives by looking for the presence of the special sensor. Click here to see a picture where the sensor is identified with a red circle.

LightScribe System Software

Now that you have the LightScribe enabled drive you will need the LightScribe System Software (LSS), which is similar to a driver.

You can download the latest version of the LSS by selecting the operating system of your choice Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Labeling Application

The type of LightScribe software you use will depend on what's bundled with your hardware.

You can also use the free LightScribe Template Labeler (Windows), or LightScribe Simple Labeler (Windows, Mac, and Linux). These easy-to-use tools allow you to design labels in just a few simple steps.

LightScribe CDs and DVDs have a special coating that interacts with the laser in your LightScribe-enabled disc drive. You must use LightScribe CDs and DVDs in order to burn a label onto your discs.

A few things to remember about LightScribe media:

• LightScribe label designs appear grayscale (like a black-and-white photograph).
• LightScribe CDs come in gold, yellow, orange, green, red, and blue.
• LightScribe DVDs available in multi-color packs including red, green, blue, yellow, and orange backgrounds!
• LightScribe media ONLY works in a LightScribe enabled drive.
