*    Hardware -Brand new Samsung DVD-RW/DL with Lightscribe (Drive 0 : TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183L SB01 129 (D, Media Imaging Parameter : 119)
*    Software -Latest LightScribe System Software 1.14.19.1
 --Using LS Simple Labeler and Template Labeler
*    Media -Verbatim 1.2 LightScribe CD-Rs

Cool software, however, I get to the "Print" button and it spends about 15 minutes "Detecting Media. please wait...", if it gets past that point, it gives me the "burning" screen where it says its estimating burn time... only to eventually give me a rejection saying the disc in the drive isn't LightScribe.

My attempts:
1.   Tried different discs in my Verbatim stack
2.   Ran Diagnostic Utility = "Scan Complete -no Lightscribe configuration problems found"
3.   Considered giving up and going back to my Sharpie marker

What is it ?  The Media ?  I hope not, since I got a burner that has the logo, got software from the logo's website, and bought cds with the logo - just like the instructions on this website...
So please tell me there's some other tweak I can do to get this to work...
Merci Bo Coupe

Hello Dog, I replied to your post because I was having very similar problems. I'd figured out it was a problem with the drive not seeing the media, but I couldn't figure out why brand names such as Philips and Memorex just weren't being seen.  So I did some research and bingo I got it working.

What you need to do is go to the downloads section and grab the latest LSS release.  I think some of these drives have been hanging around on shelves for a while, and they are older than the media and just don't recognise them.  The other benefit of doing this is that the control panel for Lightscribe will magically appear - which I didn't have previously and references to it had me scratching my head.  I think some manufacturers have skimped a bit on the support and s/w side of things.

Hey, thanks for the reply !

I believe I already have the Latest LightScribe System Software - LSS = 1.14.19.1
I'll check out the site again and make sure it actually IS the latest.

I got all this Lightscribe stuff to make a nice romantic cd for my wife with our wedding picture on it.... but now I'm beginning to think that's not happening...

Yup, that's the latest LSS.  Well I'm out of ideas I'm afraid, you need someone from tech support on this one.  Perservere and you'll get there in the end.

Hello Dog,

The data from the diagnostics tool provides information about your drive model and firmware. Your drive is a Samsung SH-S183L and SB01 is the firmware version.

I found a firmware update for your drive on the Samsung Optical Disc Drive website. Version SB01 was released on 1-3-2007 and the current version SB03 was released on 1-24-2008.

Firmware updates help correct problems and improve drive performance, including better media recognition and burn quality. You can find updates for all Samsung drives on the following URL:
