For sometime now I've had this same problem, the disc door will not open to my light scribe.  When ever I try to open it all you hear are the gears moving.  I've downloaded the diagnostic tool and it says there is no media problem found. But if I use it with a program I get back an error message with no code.  I would like to know what I can do to correct this problem?  If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem. Maybe this can help. IF your system has the "external USB" option, you may need to be certain that the switch on the rear of your device is in the "off" position, or alternately, that the option for your external USB device is turned "off" with the lightscribe menu. My drive would sometimes not open when I had the option "on".

Hi Guys !

Ever since there have been optical drives there has been a small hole on the front of drive trays.

If you take a LARGE paper clip & bend the outer leg out straight, you can GENTLY insert it into this hole & push it in slowly.

This will make the tray open manually even if the drive isn't powered.

I believe there is a solenoid that unlatches & allows the tray to open.

Does this work when burning the DATA side?

If it isn't opening sometimes when burning the DATA side, it's an indication that the solenoid is getting weak and will fail soon!

In your file manager, right click the drive which won't open and select "eject" from the context menul  The tray should then open..
