I have a LightScribe Blu-Ray burnner but there doesn't seem to be any LightScribe Blu-Ray media availiable. Is anyone aware of when this might become availiable?

Currently, LightScribe media is available in CD-R, DVD+R and DVD-R. Dual Layer LightScribe media will be available in November, but Blu-ray LightScribe media is not currently available. Consumer demand will determine the future availability of new media formats. We encourage you to provide your feedback to your favorite retailer carrying LightScribe products. The media brands such as Verbatim, Imation, HP, Memorex, and TDK are the ones ultimately making the decision on what formats to offer, please see the following page for updated information. http://lightscribe.com/products/index.aspx?id=106

I haven't seen any Blu-Ray burners with lightscribe - only Blu-Ray players that can burn DVD/CDs with lightscribe.

There is another similar thread called Blu-ray Disc, Blu-ray media where this topic is continued. To answer last posting this thread, there is a number of Blu-ray writers with lightscribe available from LG and lite-On now. Their respective web pages should have the latest specs. Unfortunately there is no Lightscribe Media for the burners as of this posting.

"Consumer demand will determine the future availability of new media formats"
By not providing this format the Vendors are engaging in demand destruction. I haven't bought a Blu-Ray burner yet, because this format is not available. I like to think I'm unique, but doubt I'm the only one.

I'm in the same shoes. Lightscribe is a great technology although spin-off of what's already there. They should provide proper media to the public. How do we let the corporation know the demand is already here?

Hi !
There are several technical problems related to the development of Blu-ray Media.
- LightScribe Disks MUST have the LS Marks in the HUB (center of disk). These marks occupy an area which Blu-ray uses for labels so the label would be smaller.
- I'm not sure of the effect these marks have on the DATA side of the disk, but they could mean that LightScribe Blu-ray disks may have less storage ability.
- Blu-ray only applies to video and this is a far lower demand the audio (CD), so the demand is considerably smaller and may be the lowest of all media.
- HP (LightScribe is a subsidiary) is only one of the many Media suppliers, so has little influence on the rest.

"LightScribe Disks MUST have the LS Marks in the HUB (center of
disk). These marks occupy an area which Blu-ray uses for labels so the
label would be smaller." --> This is no different than for DVDs. So, it's a non-issue.
"I'm not sure of the effect these marks have on the DATA side of the
disk, but they could mean that LightScribe Blu-ray disks may have less
storage ability." --> Same as for DVDs: this marking area is only on the label side.
"Blu-ray only applies to video and this is a far lower demand the
audio (CD), so the demand is considerably smaller and may be the lowest
of all media." --> DVD also is primarily for video, and is in much higher demand than CD.
As the interest in and acceptance of Blu-Ray grow, LightScribe versions will get closer. I can't wait.

OK, for my next batch of Blu-Ray discs, I ordered inkjet-printables, dual-layer... and guess what: they have their white base label running till very close to the center (hub-printable). This clearly proves that there is room for the markings that Lightscribe needs.
