I bought a new LG DVD writer (GH20LS15, SATA drive). It reads and writes disks ok (so far, at least), but every time I try to burn a label, the process hangs at some point and the dvd light stops blinking. To stop the process I have to switch off the computer from the power switch. The drive remains frozen even if I just press the reset switch.

The first label I did with Template Labeler and it froze on 96%.
The second one I did with Surething Labeler and it froze on 0%. (It burnt a tiny slice of the image)
The third one was with Template Labeler again and froze on 63%, IIRC.

The diagnostic tool tells me:
"Status: OK
Scan Complete - no Lightscribe configuration problems found."

This entry appears on the event log on the diagnostic tool after every failed attempt:

ID: 3758227457
Win32 Error : Function: [HurricaneClientProxy: DoInputCommand] DeviceIoControl returned Win32 Error: 1117 Description: Pyyntö epäonnistui I/O-laitevirheen vuoksi.
(translation: Request failed because of an I/O device error)

The disks are TDK Lightscribe CD-R.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT:
I put the drive on another computer and it worked fine so the drive, cable and the disks are probably fine. Gonna do another label soon to double-check, but I'm thinking it's something about this computer. I had to install a SATA driver to get the drive working in the first place, the mobo is MSI KT6V-LSR, VIA KT600 based.

Some applications have been reported as causing conflicts resulting in drive detection and communication issues on some system configurations. If you have any of these, please try temporarily disabling or uninstalling them.

“Daemon Tool” or other similar drive emulation software

“AnyDVD” or other similar DVD copying software

“Magix” photo, video or audio editing software applications

“Pinnacle Studio” software

“Media Four” Mac drive 7

“Online-Armor” firewall

Intel application accelerator or Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver

DVD43 or similar DVD decryption software

Many applications run background processes even when they appear to be inactive. You can normally see an icon of these applications on the task bar on the lower right side of your screen. Just for testing. Can you temporarily disable any application that is not necessary at the time to see if this will make a difference?

Especially look for applications that need to access information from the drive to operate, like video editing.

I have found some security applications, like firewall or anti-spyware that have incorrectly blocked communications between the LightScribe System Software and the drive. Can you temporarily disable these applications? Be sure to re activate them after you have finished.

Please check the BIOS settings on your motherboard. Some motherboards have options for improved performance and speed. I recommend that you select the default or safe values for this connection.
