For what it's worth, I purchased a used LG External super multi....couldn't get it to recognize lightscribe label media (Memorex). After I made sure the computer was seeing the drive itself, I suddenly remembered a gaming machine trick I saw once.   I turned the LG drive so that it was standing on it's side....suddenly it recognized the disc and started the burn process.  Hope this helps someone else.

Was this for the Mac? Usually people with extrenal LightScribe drives are on Macs.
