"Printable disk" usually refers to media that has a white coating on the back which allows certain inkjet printers to print ondirectly. Basic Lightscribe media is usually a goldish color (although I believe other colors are available). Are your disks white on the back or  a goldish color? Check the clear part of the center hub - my Memorex discs (which have worked fine in my Asus drive) have Memorex & Lightscribe printed there.

If they are Lightscribe disks then there may be an incompatability problem with your burner, although this usually shows up in no-name generic disks.

Finally - you may simply have a bad batch. You may want to return them for a different brand.

Hope this helps.

Tom

I just had some sort of problem with Memorex CD-R Media.

To be specific, I was making 3 copies of a disk.

  • One of the disks worked fine.
  • Another, had to be CLEANED AND CLEANED AND CLEANED AND CLEANED but finally worked!
  • The last disk, I burned the label on FIRST then did the copy!

I really had only about 3 disks of different type give me any sort of problem and they were noticeably damaged.  Just thought I should report it.

I have the same problem while using Memorex media. I just updated to latest version of the lightscribe system software available on http://www.lightscribe.com website. This solves my problem and I am now able to use the media in my drive.

I get an error msg: "LightScribe disc information encoded in the middle of the disc could not be read.PLease ensure that the disc is a LightScribe disc and properly oriented." The discs are blank and its clean.... I am not sure whats wrong/ Can anyone help me please.

I have purchased a fifty pack of Memorex of Light scribe DVD's -R and I cannot get one of them to work as far as the burning goes no problem, I have used Nero 10, Lightscribe, SureThing CD - DVD Label Maker and Roxio Creator 2009.

My burner is a LG Lightscribe writable.GH22LS30 ATA

So can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong or help me in some way?

Hi Coco107 !

The only thing I've found that works is cleaning the LABEL side surface even if it looks clean!

I wrote Memorex about the problem, but they just brushed it off too, like many Users seem to think!

My Hewlett-Packard Pavilion optical drive doesn't recognize my recently-purchased Memorex LightScribe CD-R disks as valid LightScribe media.  I've downloaded and installed all of the latest components from the LightScribe web site.  I also thoroughly cleaned the label side of the disks, but was unsuccessful using both the simple labeler and the template labeler.  I've successfully used the LightScribe writer with other brands.

Hope someone comes up with a solution.

Hi jtl !

I can't add anything other than to try cleaning the LABEL side again!

On another note, The mail notification I get didn't show your post, it may be due to the small font you used.

In the future, I would suggest using the default font or a larger one than the one you used.

It may be the cause of the text not showing in the notification.

Thank you for your reply.  I was almost ready to switch back to reliable old "Sharpie" for disk labeling, but thought to try one more thing:

I uninstalled all four of the LightScribe software components, even though I had just updated yesterday.  After a reboot, I reinstalled LightScribe System Software (LSS 1.18.14.1), Template Labeler, Simple Labeler and Diagnostic Utility.  Rebooted again, and the Memorex CD-R that wasn't recognized last night was immediately detected.  The label write quality was excellent.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and suggestions.

I'm having problems with Memorex discs; I bought a spindle, and have 6 disks the system won't give the time of day. Clean clean clean, whatever, doesn't work. The discs had never been touched before anyhow. I have all the latest drivers and all that, no difference.
