Hello. It really irritates me to have to make this post and join your forum to get satisfaction on this simple issue. I need to remove lightscribe from my computer. It was installed by the previous owner and I have no use for it. It opens and crashes every time I start the computer and it isn't on my Add/Remove programs list. I have searched this site with "uninstall", "remove", "obliterate", and shouted several obsceneties which I am not permitted to repeat in this forum. Nothing described how to uninstall and remove any garbage it has stuffed in my registry. I also cannot find anything in the help file that will allow me to remove it. Please help!

Hi One-time Poster !
What you're talking about is basic computer maintenance.
The reason you can't find it in Add/Remove Program is probably because it has already been removed. What you're probably clicking on is a Desktop Shortcut that can't find the program. Chances are, you can probably delete the Shortcut. To check, just right-click and select "Properties"; and then look at the target location. You'll probably find the location is no longer there or that the program isn't there. Then you can delete the Shortcut and maybe the folder, if it still exists.
It seems like you're going to have to learn some things you'll need about computer maintenance.
Hope what I wrote helps! If not you can make another post so somebody can see you still need help!

I feel the same way as the original poster. The software came with my new PC (when I got it about 8 months ago) and I do not want it. There is not a removal link in the add/remove section of my computer. I also looked for the uninstall.msi as discussed in tech support. Please tell me how to remove the software.

Hi Guys !
As I said before, it is probably already removed.
My "Add/Remove" shows the "LightScribe System Software" in the list.
I really don't know what is going on?!?!?

I strongly believe that it still loaded in my PC. It loads every time I start my PC and an Icon by the clock shows it as running.
I really would like to remove this program from my PC. The web site stated that I need to look for the uninstall.msi file but even with a search of my PC, it can not be located.
Can I down load this file from some location on the company web page?

I don't know what to tell you, I don't find it on my PC either!!!!!
Only a piece of software from Nokia doesn't seem to want to be removed on my PC no matter what I try.

I know about standard Windows PC maintenance and I can assure you Lightscribe (that came with my Samsung DVD writer) cannot be removed in the standard (configuration / uninstall) like most other applications. It comes with the NERO DVD writer software and nests itself on your PC and it is very difficult to remove. A bit like a virus. I think this has been done on purpose. It took me about an hour, and even had to search the registry. For this reason have now developed an real aversion against Lightscribe.

I too am trying to remove the lightscribe control panel and any drivers. I installed this software this last Monday and now my MSRA VPN software crashes and bluescreens my laptop. I'd like to remove the software and drivers to either confirm that they are the problem or not. The issue is that there is no way to easily remove any of this software. There is no uninstall, the products are not registered in the registry such that they can be removed easily like all the other software I use which behaves properly and actually registers in the windows registry. Before any comments are made about my technical abilities I am an seasoned IT consultant and have been doing my own support for years. I hate to think about manually going through the registry to clean this stuff out but I guess I'll have to do that or re-image my laptop. Bottom line: Is there a removal tool for the lightscribe software and drivers?

I DID NOT ask for lightscribe on my computer and DO NOT want this GARBAGE on my machine. I AM DISGUSTED at lightscribes invasion of my privacy and forceful ways of getting onto my computer by way of spyware or adware and I am going to SUE lightscribe for invasion of privacy. I HATE mongrel invasive companies like this, and hope they go bankrupt and all involved in the way they run this dodgey business fall into a huge vat of boiling oil and die slow painful deaths. I am uninstalling and if I hear from this MUTT of a company again, I will DEFINATELY be seeking legal advice and sending the mongrel owners so broke, that they will have to beg for food to feed their ratbag mutt children!!!! Now GET OFF MY MACHINE AND OUT OF MY LIFE!!!

For those having problems removing Lightscribe software (because it doesn't show up in Add/Remove Programs) download Revouninstaller from here http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html It's a freeware uninstaller which DOES allow Lightscribe to show up and be removed.
N.B. The Lightscribe System Software has to be installed for any Lightscribe printing software to work. If all Lightscribe software is removed then your Lightscribe enabled burner will not work to etch your disks, it will, however, still function as a burner.

Hahahahahahahahahahaaa. Oh, man these posts are funny. This is quite the Rant thread. And a comprehensive collection of people that don't know anything about computers. I will come back and read this thread when I need a laugh.

I am having problems with my lightscribe drive, I am having to run the same burn for a disc image twice, the first run just puts a random line on the disc and doesn't burn any of the image or text it is meant to, once I have put the disc back in and run it again it does it perfectly, Is very annpying as it ends up taking 30 min for one disc. Can anyone help?

this is the wrong place to post this. Make a new post and people will help you there.
And please include more info, like what programs you use to burn labels and what versions you have.

LightScribe uninstallation
- Go to
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe
- Double click LS_HSI.msi file
- Install/uninstall shield will run
- It will ask modify/repair/uninstall
- Click uninstall
- Again go to
- C:\Program Files\Common Files
- Delete LightScribe folder permanently by pressing Shift + Del keys
But, this many years I never faced this type of problem. Many software companies give their ads/ free software in different ways. But this software is installed without uninstall option in PROGRAM MENU/ CONTROL PANEL also.
Not only that in their answer in FAQS it is written “DOWNLOAD & INSTALL LATEST SOFTWARE FROM THEIR WEB SITE & THEN ONLY WE CAN UNINSTALL IT”. It is really very problem creating solution to people without giving the correct solution to the people.
Moreover it will create a negative impression on this software.
I never participate in any FORUMS. But first time I am participating to help the people and giving a very good suggestion to LIGHTSCRIBE software developers.
Software add should be (people) user friendly and it should not be in an irritating way.
Thanks a lot.

Ordinarily I don't get involved debating with people venting their opinions and frustrations on a forum but in this case I would hate to see wrong instructions being posted that may be followed in good faith by a person looking for accurate direction. As far as the Lightscribe software not showing in Windows Control Panel in Add/Remove Programs, that is inaccurate. I use LSS version 1.18.19.1 (an older version) and LTL version 1.18.15.1 (current) and several add on Lightscribe applications and they all are uninstallable through the Windows Add/Remove Programs window. The following is the link to the uninstall instructions:
http://www.lightscribe.com/support/kb_view.aspx?f=79
As far as his missquote as to the directions:
“DOWNLOAD & INSTALL LATEST SOFTWARE FROM THEIR WEB SITE & THEN ONLY WE CAN UNINSTALL IT”.
The instructions actually read:
" Download and install the latest version of the LightScribe System Software from our website. Open the Windows Control Panel and select Uninstall a program"
I believe the "download the latest version" instructions may refer to updating a version that is years old or completing the installation that may be incomplete from the bundled drive/3rd party burning software. Once the software package is complete and current it may be removed by the user under the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs window. The implication that somehow Lightscribe themselves has to perform the uninstall and the user cannot is wrong and ridiculous.

Hi:
I have used lightscribe for several years with no problems. It does appear though that when it does go wrong, it goes wrong big time and there is no easy way to remove it.
The ridiculous suggestion that to uninstall it you have to install the latest version of the system software is not only unfathomable but it simply doesn't work. The installer just hangs on the installation

Hi:
I finally got this to work. I'm not sure it worked by stopping the lightscribe service, taking lightscribe out of the startup programs using msconfig or using the system installation software.
It was very confusing as the installer took ages like 45 minutes on my i-2600K and SSD (fast system) to remove and install. In the end I had to end the process by force then disable the windows installer and reenable it after rebooting. By this stage it appeared to have uninstalled. I then downloaded the system software again and it now works fine!
It is important to pass this on as it appears lots of people have had issues. In the end, not sure what I did but it worked.
Suggestion would be have a REMOVAL utility that works outside the normal windows installer system just like antivirus removal utilities do. The lightscribe system installer should be separate to avoid confusion.
