I got a new HP computer recently -- Windows 7, Core i7. It came with a lightscribe drive. I was able to use Template Labeler to burn images onto several discs. Then, a few days ago, it stopped working -- when I would get to the "detecting media" stage, the program would not recognize the disc as a lightscribe disc. I am baffled. I am using discs from the same spindle that worked before. I tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling it. I've tried doing it over and over -- I have made a wedding video for my cousin and just want to get it done. But nothing works. Any suggestions?

Hi John !

I recently had a 4231 Error and worked through it.

I think the main thing I did was to rerun the install for the LSS in "Repair" Mode.

Another thing I sometimes have to do to get media recognized is clean the LABEL side.

I first Dry Wipe the surface in the hub area where the LS Marks are.

If it still won't recognize,

  • I use a Philip Brand Cleaning Kit that came with what I think is Soap & Water with a little Alcohol;
  • Wet Clean the LABEL side in the tool that was also included; and then
  • Wipe with the included Lint Free Cloths.
