Windons xp sp3 - Trying to install LS_Update_1.18.6.1_.exe - Get message:  The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.   Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'LS_HSI.msi' in the bar below.

Clicking OK returns the same message, if I search for the file, find it and then browse to that folder, I still get the same message.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It seems like you may have a corrupt download.

Delete the old downloaded file and redo the download and install.

If you did, did you save the older version?

This is the only version that I have, I had just purchased a Samsung sh-s223q dvd burner(SATA) and am trying to get it to work for about a week, very frustrating!!

I found version 1.14.32.1 on the internet, downloaded, tried to install, got the same results

GOT IT!!

FYI   Ran windows install cleanup and then it installed version 1.18.6.1 with no problem.

• I have V1.14.32.1 of the LSS and since Version 1.17.90.1 of both the LSS and the corresponding Diagnostic Utility.
• I include an "Additional Stuff" Folder which contains anything I create while developing My Custom Templates.
• I created ZIP Files for 6 Windows Vista "Right-Click" Commands I developed to support this and other procedures I use.
• I "ripped off" the "Template Playlist Beta" "Full" and "Half" Disk Templates; fixed them and create a ZIP File of the two templates.
• I have a PDF that contains "Template vs. Simple Labelers" - a comparison of what is the structure of each template.
• I found 5 FREE Tools I use for development, and have more I am testing.
• I have a PDF which contains a "Mini Resume" and a lot of "LightScribe Stuff" I've researched.
• I continually develop PDFs on the Tools I use for development.
• I developed 110 Custom Templates for the Template Labeler.
• I developed 5 collections of Images.
• I developed a New Custom Wedding Template for one Forum User and I did one for another Forum User.
• I fixed one LSL File for another User by changing a White Outline of some Text to Black.

• I developed 4 Test "borders" for the Simple Labeler.

• I have just finished writing a Newsletter about what I've been doing and 2 other FREE Programs I've been researching.

So what is the solution? I have the same problem with Windows XP SP3. I have downloaded the latest software several times with the same result. Windows installer says "The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable." It is looking for a file called LS_HSI.msi on the 'C' drive.

I have searched the FAQs and found very little except the questions; no solutions. The diagnostic utility is of no use because it says you have to have the software installed in order to use it. Like another poster here, I have searched for that file and pointed the installer to it with the exact same results.

Lightscribe, what is the answer? By now, it should be readily available to all.

PS: why can't I read all the messages? The last one below has the lower half of the letters cut off and I suspect he may have had more to say that is below the cut off portion. This is not the only page on this forum that has been this way.

Having beta tested the previous LightScribe Software version 1.18.24.1 out multiple times over on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Build 7600 & on Windows 8 Enterprise/Pro Build 9200 with my TechNet account this previous LightScribe Software edition 1.18.24.1 version which you can DOWNLOAD NOW does work correctly on both these Windows 7 & on Windows 8 O/S as well as on both Windows Vista & WinXP! There should be no need to install & run the LightScribe software as an "Admin compatibility" for LightScribe Software version 1.18.24.1 as you'll just only need to either do a signgle or a double click depending upon how your own Windows 8 settings are set & run the install program from any temp folder that's it was downloaded to et cetera - just as I did for my Norwegian Windows 8 Pro x64 Retail Upgrade I got from Microsoft Store just over two weeks ago - (but in your case your Win8 O/S will be either an English US/UK) & would not likely be in any foreign Win8 Pro O/S language as in my case.

You'll notice that the latest LightScribe ESD software [LS_Update_1.18.26.7_.exe] - fails to fully complete its install due to an error within their latest LightScribe system software update as this is an issue w/ either the software makers/venders or uploaders! So you can't use it & so either wait for a new LightScribe software update or just use an earlier LightScribe software version as follows:-

In order to correctly install any previous LightScribe System Software which is an earlier LightScribe System Software version release rather than the current installed version:- the same still applies to upgrading to any new LightScribe System Software release version:-> please go to the "Control Panel" & "open up "Applications and features" & in there you'll need to select "Lightscribe System Software" so that this software can be fully removed & then proceed to un-install it! - After that you'll be able to fully install any previous/new LightScribe System Software as a clean install.

LightScribe was conceived by Hewlett-Packard engineer Daryl Anderson. Further details can be found at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightScribe regarding LightScribe which has now ended in May 2011 & includes details about a stable release v1.18.24.1 for computer's LighScribe Optical Drives, & as such would be classified as the software part of of a computer's LighScribe Optical Drives hardware! Although HP www.hp.com did & still possibly supply www.lightscribe.com with their lightscribe drivers for downloads - one can also get them from HP as well - but maybe some users would not know exactly where to go within HP's site as HP aren't very clear with regards to finding this old data & the LightScribe Optical Drive would be useless without the LightScribe System Software due to LightScribe which ended in May 2011!

The above [LS_Update_1.18.24.1_.exe] software package which was obtained from out of a portion of my previous BD-R (LightScribe web-site) LightScribe System Software.mht complete web page together w/ ESD backup of an older LightScribe software version which I had done will fully install the LSS on any Windows 8 Enterprise/Professional (x64) RTM Build: 9200 operating system & I still do use - due to those [LS_Update_1.18.26.7_.exe] Windows 8 (x64) installation issues!
