I got Error 4231 after about 70% of the lable was burned. After getting about a 2 out of10 full burn rate. I always got the error that system sofware and service caused it . I checked the Application and system logs and found the the software was requesting a service about five times and THEN timed out - CRASH. The cause was to little ram memory.
It took me about 2 days to figure it out because I was not a programmer but a netwoork engineer and field service engineer.

In my case I was running it on my notebook Asus Eee XP-sp3 1 Gig memory, so I moved it to my desktop 3 Gig Memory Vista Business and now get successfull burns.Both have fast processors I think the notebook could do it if I upgraded my mem to 2 gig but I burn Most of my DVDs on the desktop the mini notebook is to small for a built in optic drive. . I did notice that the ID sysem info is in the middle of the DVD by the hub, and tested on the same disk because it uses the same ID to position it, so you can reburn on the same disk but someone needs to write a utility so it can be set to start burning where it left off, I got about four shades on my test disk, dark inside and light on the outside because it always starts in the middle.

I don't think my 4 year old asus Laptop will handel it with 1.25 Gig and a mobile processor but I will try it for fun.
