Hello,I am using a sony dru-865s and I keep getting this error 4225 when trying to print a label.

I uninstalled ALL software and used ALL the utilities to test the installation of the lightscribe system and it reports all is well.

Sony says it's a lightscribe software problem and I'm sure lightscribe will say the drive is at fault.

Just for the hell of it I went out and bought another lightscribe drive and installed it and the software only to find the same problem.

Then I installed the same drives on another system only to find the same problem again.

So my question is does this lightscribe work? if so do I need a magic wand to get it working.

How about it tech support people whats the answer?

Hi OldBcoder !

Seems like a supporting software problem!

I'd make sure I had:

  • Version 2.0 or greater of .NET (Currently V3.5 SP1)
  • Latest C++ Runtime Library
  • V1.18.3.2 of the LightScribe System Software (LSS) & Diagnostic Utility (DU) (a matched set)

This applies to any system you try.

I did a search of the knowledge base for '4225' and found 3 faq's when some past issues that tech supported identified. There seems to be a persistent issue with nVidia drivers, I haven't run into this but others have.

Check the knowledge base and see if any of them help.

Thank you for your suggestions on this matter,I have been doing a lot of research on this problem and have at least solved my problem.

I returned the Sony drive and purchased a HP drive, the only real difference is the interface type, the Sony had sata and the HP is IDE.

I believe the sata drivers are the problem I tried 2 other sata drives on a total of three different systems and always got the 4225 error.

On the same systems with the IDE drives I had no problem with printing a label,my conclusion would be the nvidia sata drivers need to be revised to correct the problem.

Of course I can only test this with the equipment I have available to me so this may not be the total problem.

Nero tech support didnt even bother answering my emails and since lightscribe tech support has not posted I will conclude they careless about the users.

I will say the lightscribe template program is far superior to the nero version kudos to whoever wrote it.

Just thought that I'd share my experience in case it may assist others.  Recently purchased an LG GH22 Lightscribe drive and installed it with no issues, along with Nero Essentials software.  The drive would read and write both CD and DVD but the Lightscribe labeling function did not work.  I kept receiving "Waiting for the drive to become ready" then "Lightscribe error: A communication error has occurred with the Lightscribe drive. Please restart your PC and try the label again." "Print process failed. A communication error has occurred with the Lightscribe drive." Updated the firmware for the drive and updated to the most recent LSS release, all to no avail.  Installed and ran the Lightscribe Diagnostic Utility and it reported that there were no configuration issues, but failed to detect the media in the drive.  Nero had me send diagnostic files to them and they found no reason for the error.

Today, I replaced the drive with an identical one, since LG said they thought perhaps I had a bad unit.  Nope...the new drive also would not print labels.  LG suggested that I try the Lightscribe Simple Labeler, so I downloaded that and tried it.  STILL no joy.  I received an Error 4225, and searched the knowledgebase here for it.  Seems that the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver causes conflicts on some systems, and since my IDE ATA/ATAPI controller was using that driver, I decided to try the fix of changing it to the Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller as suggested here.

I'm happy to report that after a reboot, the drive is working perfectly and so is the labeling feature!

Hope that this helps anyone with a similar problem.

 FIX FOR 4225 ERROR

Like many of you, I had this very annoying 4225 message error and spent hours on the web trying to find a fix. My computer was working fine before I added a secondary hard drive. This is how I fixed the error:

  1. My DVD ROM is an internal LG GH22LS50 sata and I understand that sata can create problems, so I have changed in motherboard configuration setup from SATA to IDE.
  2. I then switched off my PC and swapped the SATA cable for the secondary hard drive to the slot of the DVD rom and the cable for the DVD rom into the slot of the secondary hard drive
  3. I restarted the PC and it now work like a charm

Hope it helps someone.
