This is a little bit dated.

Opera, Firefox and Chrome all failed to post a message on the forums.  IE appeared to fail, but I later discovered the message actually got through.

 Simply put , feature not currently  available to forum members; only forum moderators/ or technical site engineers with a higher access protocol

Due to lightscribe  enabled hardware (DVD drives) being officially discontinued (in 2011)by Hewlett Packard (HP), it is unlikely at present that the feature to be enabled.

 Your problem is either related to the Browser you're using or your Profile => Forum => Content and Forum Editor.

This should be either eWebEdit400 or eWebEditPro.

There is something crazy about your setup here, or the way your servers work, or your board software is simply not compatible with modern-day browsers, except partially Chrome, which at least allows me to type in a reply (it's the only one that does), or there is a language barrier.  

The servers issue gibberish emails.  For instance this is what the notification email to me that someone had responded said:

Further evidence that something is crazy about the LS forum setup.

The only clue I had that you had responded was that the email came from no-reply@lightscribe.com, so then I had to come here and search for my threads.

By the way I edited my signature in this post, not in my profile.

The signature editor doesn't work using Firefox 4 or Internet Explorer 9.  In fact these forums generally seem to be based on some archaic code.  Not even the notification email I got from the board made sense.  I had to log in and take a look to know what it was about.
 

I added an avatar (photo) before my first post.  When that post displayed, the photo was there.

Upon returning to the forum, my photo is gone -- it's just a tiny missing image square.  When I ask my browser to show the image in a new window, I get this site's "not found" (404) page.

Other avatars are displayed, e.g., the two earlier posts in this thread.

Update 30 minutes later:

I now see my photo, but the two other avatars in this topic are now missing.

To burn a label, you would need to scan the LABEL side of the source disk & use it as the Image Item in a template.

Most DVDs are NOT able to be copied because of Copyright protection on the disk.

To the best of my knowledge, none are currently being manufactured.

One User thought he found silver ones on eBay, but I haven't heard back if they really had a silver label side.

You might be able to find the thread by using the word "silver" in the search feature of the Forum.

I have one LS Drive built-in ti my Notebook annd one built-in to my HP PhotoSmart C8180 Printer.

Alot of the time, I burn LABELS on the one in the printer and DATA on the one in the Notebook.

According to the Folks at LS both could be doing LABELS.  I think the "Knowledge Base" in the "LightScribe Toolbox" shown above on this page contains that information.

I just downloaded and tried SureThing.

Although it has some neat effects, I still prefer the FREE LS Template Labeler.

• I found the Importing of Track Lists easy, but it suffers from the same problem as the LS Template Playlist Beta.  It automatically inserts a Track Number, even with the Filename containing one.  My Tracks include the Track Number to keep the Tracks in ORDER
• I found editing Text very difficult.

The XML used by the TL is more versatile and easy to revise after the fact.

I'm just a retired person, like yourself, but I've had 35 years experience with computers of all types and just as many operating systems.  I know where you're coming from on the issue of backups.

I have a few questions:

I assume you're saying the DATA isn't working from your comments about needing to make backups.  Is that correct?  If it is, the problem may be a bad drive.

If the DATA is OK, is the problem with the LABEL?  The processes are done on different sides of the disk.  Are you saying you can't burn a LABEL?  That shouldn't effect making backups.

What are you using for each?  What is your DATA burning software?  What is your LABEL burning software?

What versions of the software are you using?

What operating system are you running?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need to understand the exact nature of your problems!

Your point is well made, however LS has to cater to Windows more than Macs or all the versions of Unix.

And before you ask - No I don't work for LS or HP.

Unlike versions of Unix, Windows tends to need the newest versions of most of the supporting software (driver seem to be an exception).

I will take responsibility for recommending that the Forum has been revised.  People were making the exact same post on multiple thread and it was getting tedious making the same replies over and over and over again when you're trying to help someone!!!!

LS has created the "LightScribe Toolbox" and "Knowledge Base" to help answer a lot of questions, but people aren't using it very much yet.

I would suggest that maybe separate forums and other thins might be better for Macs and Unix versions because most questions (until recently) have to do with Window versions.

I don't know about the message about 3rd Party stuff, but I just finished replying to coler about a drive that had almost the same model number, but ended with CT10N.  It was HL-DT-ST BDDVDR CT10N.

Coler had a question about its compatibility.  All I could find on the web was a site about "incompatibility" with something I don't know what.  the other site was Asian and my translator couldn't work on it, but I think it was close to Traditional Chinese.

If you got a message saying "media not detected", it could be a bad disk.  I'd use the Diagnostic Utility (unless run as administrator it may report service not started or running) and see if it detects the media.

This is a problem we have been trying to fix, but still we have not found why it happens. Even if displays "Forum Login", you can continue posting and replying because the system still recognizes you are logged. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sorry, only moderators can upload images. You can use any other photo sharing application and share the link. Just as you did.

Looking at your defect, does it happen on every image you try to print?

I took Flatspeed's advise and posted my ZIP Files on

Microsoft's Office Live Workplace under "LightScribe ZIP Files" but it looks like I still need Email addresses to Share and send Notifications to whoever is interested.

You can use the MESSAGE function under the Forum to get Emails from people.
