I want to create my own template with my custom labels. How can i do this? It's possible to create so a template, place the labels to the appropiate place and then convert it to a lightscribe format?

LS TL will not install on Win8.  Multiple compatibility modes were tested.  Use the previous version, here: http://download.lightscribe.com/ls/LightScribeTemplateLabeler_1.18.24.1.exe

From your description, I have to assume you're not referring to the software that can be found following the "Downloads" link above.

The manufacturer of your duplicator should be contacted for the problem you're having.

They should be able to help you.

Their software should create a "seudo-device" that is really code to generate a .LSI File when selected in the LS TL. This file will contain the "image" for the 1st drive in the duplicator.

Yes, the LS Disk Drive "BURNS" the Image on the LABEL side of an LS Disk.

I & many Users do the LABEL side first, but I do the DATA side first on DVDs because the DATA is usually larger & more prone to problems

I have V1.14.32.1 of the LSS & since Version 1.17.90.1 of both the LSS & the corresponding Diagnostic Utility.

One of these is a commands will make a Full Disk Playlist Label which puts a complete Track List in the Frst Text Item.
The Full Disk Template can be changed to any other desired template & edited to suit.
I've created a "LightScribe Playlist Template Creator" & am looking for Users to help test & report error.
I "ripped off" the "Template Playlist Beta" (For which LS has NO documentation, NO source, & LAID OFF the Technician) "Full" & "Half" Disk Templates; fixed them; & then create a ZIP File of the two templates.

I can only find Memorex Disks.

Om the 1st 2 Spindles, I had to use a cleaning kit & do wet cleaning on the LABEL side of every disk before they would even do ANY labeling.

Things have gotten alot better & can, for most disks, the labeling isn't any problem, but when a problem does occur, usually using a dry lint-free cloth to wipe the LABEL side will allow labeling without any further problems.

I had a problem once which may have been similar.

I'm using Windows 7 & when this type of problem occurs, I don't use the Library link.

Instead, I browse using My Picture in my account & usually find what I'm looking for.

This hasn't happened recently, but like I said, My Pictures usually gets there.

If I use my own Pictures in the Template Labeler (Full Picture Template) and Save my Design, the Size and Position of my Picture are not saved.

If I load this lsl file my picture appears in the original size and centre position. The save function in this case is useless.

Can anybody correct this bug?

I've been mucking around with designing custom templates.  I have found that XML Notepad from Microsoft and Paint.NET from this link:-

 are GREAT tools for the job!!! 

I've also found out that you can use Paint.NET to generate COLOR thumbnails and backgrounds that WILL show up in the Template Labeler!!! 

I even used XML Notepad to correct a problem in the Straight Label fromanother post AND to directly add the "No Background" to the Catagory List!!! 

As you can see I'm all 's!!!

The LSS should also be version 1.18.24.1!

They are a MATCHED SET!

Try that & see if the problem goes away.

The Colors in the TL are only for the Preview!

do i always have to select a dis color. i prefer no background color. is there any way to get around this?

 Hi,

I'm trying to download the various templates in the design center. If I pick a topic, let's say "at the office", I cannot move my mouse over to any of the subcategories without the main business box disappearing! It is like a wild goose chase! I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with Firefox as a browser.

Interestingly enough, I have the same O/S and browser at work and it works fine. I even tried to e-mail the designs back home, but the program won't recognize them. (You can't win!) They have turned into jpegs.

I went over to internet explorer with the same outcome. In fact, I had trouble posting this message using Firefox. Try Opera?

What am I doing wrong?

UPDATE!!!!!  I was able to do everything with Opera.  They are programs.  You click on "at the office" and then select "business".  You then select your OS and download the program, it places the images directly in your lightscribe program.  Maybe the 64 bits is causing firefox to fail?  Opera works.

Also, does the Print Preview show the same black band?

The Lightscribe Template Labeler is a free labeling program that although pretty good is limited in it's creative  features. A user on this forum (Fred) user name cimofj2 has a library of free and more flexible templates for use with the LTL. Contact him for further info if he doesn't see this post and respond. Below is a link to several commercial labeling program vendors (not free) to research. The SureThing product is a pretty popular and flexible 3rd party software application.

Apparently, it's the wireless trackball.  I plugged in a wired logitech trackball, the T-BB14, and it all works fine. 

Very irritating!  I prefer the T-RA17, not because its wireless, but because I like the ergonomics.  But if it doesn't play well with some programs...  

Oh well.  At least I can label some disks now, until the next stupid incompatibility pops up.

I found out a little while ago that the LS Template Labeler will actually allow TWO Drives to be burned in ONE Instance (Copy) of the Program!!!!!

As I write this, I started the LS TL with ONE pre-designed LABEL

AND THEN

Did a Print Preview to ONE of my LS Drives & started the Burn Process;

THEN

Did a Print Preview to my OTHER LS Drive & started another Burn Process!!!!!

Regardless, the ability to generate an LSI File depends ENTIRELY on the software provided by the DUPLICATOR MANUFACTURER!

It may REQUIRE that that software is installed LAST!

It's this software that installs a driver that produces the LSI File by appearing to be an LS Drive!

 PNG Files can have transparent background & can be layered on top of another image file.

HOWEVER, THEY MUST BE REOPENED EACH TIME THE TEMPLATE IS USED!

If the label design is saved, the PNG Image Background will come back BLACK!

Thanks for the additional suggestions.  At this point, I think it's the drive that's failing, more specifically, the laser.

I did take home the remaining discs and started burning them on my lightscribe drive at home.  Same media, same image, comes out fine. 

Again, I didn't think it was ever a media issue as I was burning discs fine until I got to around 20 or so, then the quality went from good to unusable.

I do have an old HP PC lying around that I've pulled parts out of before that has a LightScribe drive in it.  I may just end up swapping this failing one for that one and seeing how it goes.  I did find a local retailer that sells replacement LightScribe drives for $49, so that's another option.

This is all for my son's preschool fundraiser, so I really don't want to incur any more costs as it is.  I'll do the swap a little later and hope for the best.

Oh, I tried to just burn some data onto a DVD disc on the current drive, the drive spits out the discs and keeps advising me to insert a blank DVD... tried this with 4 different known blanks (they were from a previously unopened batch), same issue... so yeah, probably going to toss this drive.

I do a lot of template development & I've found that because of the TL using a "background" size of 1200x1200 Pixels, the larger the Image the better.

Also, scanning with a higher dpi setting gives better results.

So Images which are larger than 1200x1200 Pixels or higher than about 600 dpi do better.

Especilly the last minute about "Blank Template".

The current version of the Simple Labeler is 1.18.15.1..I don't understand how the Simple Labeler could report a 1.18.22.2 version. The "late beta pre final release" browser you are using does presently have some rendering issues that are being addressed by Microsoft but I don't think that is a part of your problem. I don't understand why you are using a native resolution of 800x600. 1024x768 is pretty much the basic starting standard for today's 4:3 monitors and the resolutions scale higher commonly. That said, doesn't using the Restore Down/Maximize window button and/or the sizing arrows make the active window size adequate for viewing the entire active window? If they don't work as they should I would probably suspect wrong monitor/resolution settings or an incorrect/incompatible display driver.

I have a brand new spindle of 50 branded LS disks - most are not being recognized as "Lightscribe" - go figure. I have the latest software - firmware - BIOS - application.

Some disks work and most dont - just spits them out after "analytically processing and thinking" for about 3 minutes! Whoever designed this?

In addition:

• Check the Window Update History (People allow this to be automatic without notification - BAD IDEA ALWAYS get a notification 1st)
• Any other Updates or Installs since you used it last
• ALWAYS restart after uninstalls or re-installs
• ALL LSS Programs are 32 bit (Should be installed under "Program Files (x86)

I think what is impressive is that I did five burns and there is no blurring at all! That 5 is crisp!

Others have experienced blurring of the picture when doing mulit-burns. Like this guy(click magnifying glass picture to see the image blur):

Basically the answer is YES, but for TRUE TRANSPARENCY that allows a background to show, you have to use a PNG File & keep re-entering it everytime a saved LSL File is used!
