Installation of lightscribe system software on win 7 64 bit is rolling back

3 Replies, 5049 Views
Started by PMueller
Last Posted to on Saturday, November 17, 2012 4:58:33 AM by x-osn

You'll need to flip the LightScribe disc over as you insert it in to your "LightScribe Optical Drive" so that the disc data side is facing upwards & then only you'll be able to burn your images on to it! In order to successfully burn any LightScribe disc with an image of your own choice - you'll now need to study http://www.lightscribe.com/gettingstarted/index.aspx & in this section it details all the info you'll need in order to do this feature!

Having beta tested the previous LightScribe Software version 1.18.24.1 out multiple times over on Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Build 7600 & on Windows 8 Enterprise/Pro Build 9200 with my TechNet account this previous LightScribe Software edition 1.18.24.1 version which you can DOWNLOAD NOW does work correctly on both these Windows 7 & on Windows 8 O/S as well as on both Windows Vista & WinXP! There should be no need to install & run the LightScribe software as an "Admin compatibility" for LightScribe Software version 1.18.24.1 as you'll just only need to either do a signgle or a double click depending upon how your own Windows 8 settings are set & run the install program from any temp folder that's it was downloaded to et cetera - just as I did for my Norwegian Windows 8 Pro x64 Retail Upgrade I got from Microsoft Store just over two weeks ago - (but in your case your Win8 O/S will be either an English US/UK) & would not likely be in any foreign Win8 Pro O/S language as in my case.

you'll notice that the latest LightScribe ESD software [LS_Update_1.18.26.7_.exe] - fails to fully complete its install due to an error within their latest LightScribe system software update as this is an issue w/ either the software makers/venders or uploaders!
1 Replies, 3261 Views
Started by diverjim
Last Posted to on Monday, October 15, 2012 1:12:15 AM by Jim B
By the looks of your LDU printout your HP and Hitachi optical drives are configured as a RAID array. Since the SATA controller chipset seems to have to be fully backwards IDE and Intel Southbridge compliant in order for Lightscribe functionality you would have to contact EMachines to see if your motherboard has a fully backwards compliant IDE port available or if they have any solutions. If not I would probably try an external USB 2.0 Lightscribe optical drive for the Lightscribe function. You could try reconfiguring your present equipment (resetting the registry upper and lower filter values, trying secondary controller mode change, firmware, optical drive driver, etc.) but this is best left to a pro since it can cause more problems than it solves. You can read my back posts for detailed solutions to try in specific configurations but it hasn't always been successful. (I think the key lies with IDE compliance) You could try HP tech support but they really haven't been too helpful with a solution in the past.

Here's it - for you!

Although LightScribe System Software is free & obtainable directly from the Lightscribe http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/windows/index.aspx?id=810 site - you'll notice that the latest LightScribe ESD software [LS_Update_1.18.26.7_.exe] - fails to fully complete its install due to an error within their latest LightScribe system software update as this is an issue w/ either the software makers/venders or uploaders! So you can't use it & so either wait for a new LightScribe software update or just use an earlier LightScribe software version as follows:-

DOWNLOAD NOW

File name LS_Update_1.18.24.1_.exe

File size 13.0 MB

Revision 1.18.24.1

Release Date June 20, 2011

Notes New drive support

Requirements LightScribe enabled drive, media, and labeling software also needed.

In order to correctly install any previous LightScribe System Software which is an earlier LightScribe System Software version release rather than the current installed version:- the same still applies to upgrading to any new LightScribe System Software release version:-> please go to the "Control Panel" & "open up "Applications and features" & in there you'll need to select "Lightscribe System Software" so that this software can be fully removed & then proceed to un-install it! - After that you'll be able to fully install any previous/new LightScribe System Software as a clean install.

The above [LS_Update_1.18.24.1_.exe] software package will fully install the LSS on any Windows 8 Enterprise/Professional (x64) RTM Build: 9200 operating system which was obtained from out of a portion of my previous BD-R (LightScribe web-site) LightScribe System Software.mht complete web page together w/ ESD backup of an older LightScribe software version which I had done & still use due to those [LS_Update_1.18.26.7_.exe] Windows 8 (x64) installation issues!

LightScribe was conceived by Hewlett-Packard engineer Daryl Anderson. Further details can be found at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightScribe regarding LightScribe which has now ended in May 2011 & includes details about a stable release v1.18.24.1 for computer's LighScribe Optical Drives, & as such would be classified as the software part of of a computer's LighScribe Optical Drives hardware! Although HP www.hp.com did & still possibly supply www.lightscribe.com with their lightscribe drivers for downloads - one can also get them from HP as well - but maybe some users would not know exactly where to go within HP's site as HP aren't very clear with regards to finding this old data & the LightScribe Optical Drive would be useless without the LightScribe System Software due to LightScribe which ended in May 2011!

"Beginning in May 2011, HP LightScribe® technology optical disc drives will be at the end of their production life in HP Desktop Workstations and Commercial Desktop PCs."

Here is HP (US) alternative to the www.lightscribe.com site due to these "lightscibe - multiple site failures" over the week-ends & on week-days as no one seems to get much from LighScribe!

If any of the above LightScribe software fails - then you could either try to use the HP LightScribe System Software - v1.18.20.1 REV: A. (sp51638.exe) made by HP on their US site http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitemb-91820-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en as I've tested it out on my RTM edition of Windows 8 Professional (x64) - Build 9200 it both correctly installed & worked each time under (3) different clean install tests - or if that fails for any reasons then you could try one that Nero provides within either Nero 11 & 12 suites & try to use the latest Nero 11/12 software build - as both the Nero 11/12 suites & above provide LightScribe system software which usually gets installed during any clean Nero 11/12 installation!

Under Windows 8 Enterprise/Professional (x64) - should the LightScribe System Software for Nero 12 Platinum fail to be installed, you'll then need to use the www.lightscribe.com site to both download & manually install the LightScribe System Software yourself after Nero 12 Platinum has been installed - as I manually installed LightScribe System Software LS_Update_1.18.24.1_ which was obtained from a previous Blu-ray backup as I was unable to locate it within Nero 12 Platinum possibly caused by the new LightScribe System Software build install error which I explained in my first two lines (top) et cetera

a) This is where LightScribe System Software should be placed within Nero 12 Platinum (Nero Express) once it´s fully installed as per both of these screenshots shows!

I also had to manually install Nero CoverDesigner as Nero now provides this as a freebie add-on which has to be downloaded seperately for their new Nero 12 suites! Notice that the LightScribe System Software is also available within the Nero CoverDesigner as well!

b) This is where LightScribe System Software should be placed within Nero 12 Platinum (Nero CoverDesigner) once it´s fully installed as per both of these screenshots shows!

An alternative possibly if it works is for you to select an appropriate LightScribe software from "your LightScribe product manufacturer which will have the best knowledge of your specific configuration and needs, and they are recommended as your first source of updates whenever possible." - Use the "Dropdown Listings" & then save an appropriate executable file to your "Downloads" folder & then run the ESD after the download has completed as it may be able work w/ most LightScribe Optical Drives on the market today!

Notice:- Roxio Creator 2012 Pro & below doesn't provide any "LightScribe" system software during any installs at all! If you use any Roxio 2009 & above products, you'll then need to use the www.lightscribe.com site for your "LightScribe" system software!

The Simple Labeler ONLY does 2 Cruved Text Fields on a Background!

This CANNOT be changed! Only additional Backgrounds can be added.

The Backgrounds are 2773x2773 JPG Files & are Numbered.

To add a Background a Copy of stuff from an existing Backgroud & a New Background added with the same Number.

If you're looking to do this, I've done it & can help.

Can't delete Lightscribe System Software

0 Replies, 3532 Views
Started by tom15DU
Last Posted to on Sunday, April 29, 2012 9:56:28 AM by tom15DU

Hello,

Since today I wanted to delete Lightscribe System Software, because it's always running at the background and I never use the program. But when I try to delete it, I receive the next message (translated from Dutch to English by myself (also see screen below the message, but please note this one is in Dutch):

"You don't have enough permissions to complete this installation for all users of this computer. Please login as a system manager and install this again"

So, the wrong thing about it, is that I can't delete the program, but with other programs this isn't a problem. I am the only user of this computer, so that can't be the problem.

Is there somebody who can help me with this, please?

Oh, and I'm running it on Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bits.

EDIT: Never mind. I did delete it with CCleaner.

Error saying LSS not installed

0 Replies, 3665 Views
Started by DCShelton
Last Posted to on Thursday, March 29, 2012 8:25:43 AM by DCShelton

I am having trouble with using the Template SW.

After installing the LSS, Simple and Template SW I can
successfully burn with the Simple SW.

But if I try to burn using the Template SW I get an error
box telling me that the LSS SW is not installed.

I am baffled since I can burn with the simple label SW.

I even downloaded the diagnostic utilities to see if that
could help in resolving and it tells me everything is fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

What directory did you download and save the file to? Generally speaking good practice is to download and install programs from the root boot drive that the operating system resides on. (normally C) You can always select a target directory upon program installation. I think the file you are referring to may reside in the Windows Installer component. How many physical and partitioned drives do you have on your system? Is this a multi OS/boot system?

Lightscribe on a mac running Lion

3 Replies, 4985 Views
Started by HHC
Last Posted to on Sunday, February 12, 2012 1:23:33 PM by Jim B

This is a quote from one of my past posts addressing the duplicator issue when the host pc is running windows:

"Generally speaking the proprietary software that comes with the duplicator enables the .lsi file creation ability. The duplicator supplied software is installed on the PC (usually WITHOUT the duplicator connected to the PC) and the model number of the duplicator is entered or chosen in the device selection installation window. If the duplicator is connected to the PC during installation Windows may see one of the duplicator drives as an optical drive and install the drive as a peripheral. (usually the bottom target drive in the duplicator) That incorrect method of installation will result in being unable to create a .lsi file. (a .lsl file is the only result) When installed correctly, the duplicator model # is shown as a lightscribe drive and the "print" function creates a .lsi file that is saved to the PC hard drive and burned on a CD for use in the duplicator."

I don't have any first hand experience in trying to create the duplicator .lsi image file in a Mac environment. I'll try to do some homework and post the results here. Off the top of my head is the possibility of a Windows partition on your existing machine or a basic Windows XP or later machine for the image file creation. Keep in mind that unless you are trying to add the duplicator drives as optical drives in a network enviornment there is no need to connect the duplicator to any pc.

UPDATE!!!!-----Try doing a Parallel installation on your machine. ProDuplicator thinks that should work with your OS. You can search the Mac forums if you are unfamiliar with this procedure....

In short your logon is not allowed to install this type of program on this machine.

1 Replies, 5879 Views
Started by Nancy Myers
Last Posted to on Thursday, October 06, 2011 5:07:56 PM by Jim B
I am not aware of a Lightscribe error code 1714 but if you are referring to a Windows error code 1714 while installing a program that is usually a result of an improperly uninstalled previous version of a program. Depending on what operating system you are using try the Microsoft tech support site and see if the Windows Installer Repair Tool may be applicable in your particular system.

Are you really using LS Disks that are V1.2?

If so, what is the Brand & Where did you find them?

14 Replies, 7660 Views
Started by tschmid
Last Posted to on Sunday, September 11, 2011 3:41:18 PM by tschmid

Yes, Jim, thanks, I know that it worked under the other logons as well. But since I use LS only from time to time and since I don't want to have more admin accounts than really needed (security and storage reasons) I decided to delete that admin2 account. I hoped that Revo would be able to do a clean uninstall of LS (it looked like it), so that a new installation in my primary admin account would be possible again. - I just tried. Unfortunately it did not work.

Now, I suspect the problem was not the LS installation in the first place. Because today I also wanted to update Skype and I got an error message indicating a similar problem. So I guess there must be something fishy with my primary admin account. But I have no idea what exactly.

Jim, you seem to be really Windows-savvy. Do you happen to know a tool to check an (admin) account for any integrity problems and possibly fix them? Or what would you suggest to me?

Best way to install lightscribe?

2 Replies, 6094 Views
Started by vidman
Last Posted to on Friday, September 09, 2011 4:08:42 PM by vidman
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the drive is internal and I actually hope to get at it tomorrow (installing it) though I haven't decide whether to replace one of the two existing ones or just add it into it's own slot. I really just got it for the lightscribing ability so I'll probably just add in into the tower. Again, I appreciate the advice and I'm looking forward to scribing my discs instead of printing on them.

Where Is The Customer Service ??? Don't Buy This Product!!

0 Replies, 6146 Views
Started by ltewsjr1
Last Posted to on Monday, August 15, 2011 5:29:27 PM by ltewsjr1

LightScribe sells you a product that's difficult to install, and does not supply any customer service. No phone numbers, email adresses or contact information.. It's obvious that this company does not care about it's customers.. What if Walmart treated their customers the way LightScribe does?? The LightScribe software came with my HP Desktop computer. It worked fine until it became corrupt and I had to uninstall it. Now when I attempt to re-install it, it rolls-back the installation with no explanation or reason for doing so.. I tried a number of times with the same result.. I looked for a number to call for customer service and guess what ???? No customer service numbers.. Incredible.. How does this company stay in business?? I would never spend another dime on a product from this company.. Now I have to try to figure out what the problem is.... This company SUCKS!!!!

1 Replies, 6547 Views
Started by dms
Last Posted to on Sunday, July 31, 2011 11:22:45 AM by cimofj2

Yes 15 minutes is about normal! (12-25 depending on the Image)

The reason is simple, unlike DATA which only uses PART of the surface, a LABEL USES ALL OF THE SURFACE.

This is necessary for a full disk image.

2 Curved Text Items (Simple Labeler) take the shortest time & Straight Text Items & Images require more time.
