can anyone help me shed some light on this?

-i checked administrative services  to see if LS was enabled, it is
-i just switched my motherboards sata ports the drive is connected to to IDE mode as I read that may help

But still no avail. I can read discs fine but I cant lightscribe and the lightscribe software (the generic one offered here on the site) says "no lightscribe drives found." I use SureThing to create LS labels.

I have a hitachi/LG BH30N blu ray burner. its supposed to have LS capabilities. my old ide benq dw1625 drive worked fine before i upgraded my motherboard.

You didn't mention what OS or motherboard serial ATA controller chipset you have. nVidia chipsets have be extremely problematic in the past due to the chipset not being fully backward compatible with the IDE specification. Some Gigabyte motherboards have had a single separate IDE port connection on the motherboard as the SATA port banks seem to be problematic for Lightscribe as well. Run the LDU (Lightscribe Diagnostic Utility and see if the report shows anything. Sometimes after replacing an optical drive the allocate cdrom registry value has to be manually changed to 0.

Ah thanks for the info.

I have an asus motherboard with an amd 990x chipset. Note that this is basically a brand new build, new mobo with a fresh install of windows 7. I never had any optical drives associated with this install of windows before I got the bluray drive I currently have in today.

im going to try out the JMicron sataII controlled ports and not the amd controlled sataIII ports right now to see if those do anything different.

heres what the diagnostics tab is showing me

ok looks like the JMicron controlled sata ports dont work either.
im going to the guess the amd 990x on ide mode is on that same nvidia list and cant really support LS?

i hooked back up my old benq dw1625 IDE drive via an internal ide - usb adapter and am running that drive off of usb now. i suppose that will have to work for me now. i didnt want to sell off that benq drive anyways, its the quietest optical drive ive ever used! even the tray opening up is smooth and quiet.

The LDU shows the correct registry value as well as the IDE interface.  Based on your last post I would have to conclude your basic problem is probably an  incompatible SATA interface or LSS not recognizing your drive/interface combo. (drive firmware, non compliant Southbridge controller chip, etc.) Since you got Lightscribe  working by connecting your old drive to an IDE compliant controller I would leave it alone and use it as it is. You could spend hours trying different configurations that might result in more problems than the Lightscribe not functioning and might not even solve the problem. It's not like Lightscribe seems to be any faster regardless of interface (USB 2.0. Sata, IDE, etc) so there is no downside to that interface. You can always try a later LSS version (if one ever becomes available) to see if it makes a difference in the future.

I seem to be having the same problem...everything seemingly installs OK, but the LS software says there is no LS device detected!  HELP...not sure what to do.  Have tried 2 different LS drives, and I get the same result with both of them.

Ignore the smilies in my LDU listing...they are supposed to be a ":" and a capital "D", but it seems the smilie gods keep changing them automatically!  Geeez....
