I have an HP Pavillion a6632f desktop PC upgraded to WIN7 Home Premium with an upgraded 1TB Seagate HD. The machine came with a TSSTcorp CD DVDW TS-H653Q 0303 172 LightScribe DVD Super Multi Drive/CD Burner. I've installed all the HP SPs and the latest LSS 1.18.24.1 with the LightScribe Template Labeler from the LS website. I have currently 200 "LightScribe capable" DVDs. 100-pack Optical Quantum Color LightScribe and (2) 50-pack HP LightScribe DVD-R brand new.                                                                                                         I have tried everything to print a LS label without success. The message is always the same "A LightScribe disc was not detected in the drive. please insert a LightScribe disc with the label side down (4114)."  Also installed the LS Diagnostic Utility and the result shows no media detected:

Utilities

Error Code: 0x10a1

COM Name: LSCAPI_E_COMM_NO_MEDIA

Error Class: COMM_No_Media

Comment: The drive indicates that no media is present.

Message: No media detected.

Any solution would be greatly appreciated. Thak you.

That error code indicates the physical drive is recognized as a Lightscribe enabled drive but the media itself is not being seen as a Lightscibe enabled disc. Either try cleaning the hub index markings thoroughly or keep trying different media. (Some batches of discs lately seem to contain as many as 50% or more bad discs in them) The data side burns fine but the Lightscribe recognition is erratic. Personally I have found Verbatim to be among the best for consistent good quality. Remember to store a known good disc for future diagnostic purposes...saves a bunch of time when trying to diagnose future recognition errors.

Thanks for the input Jim. It's a shame if the media is reallybthat bad. I suppose I could return all 200 LS disks I bought and try Verbatim. The restocking fees and s&h is going to kill me though.        -taradog

You can follow the link below to get an idea of some of the common reasons for media not being recognized:

After using LS successfully for about maybe 5 discs I started getting this same error out of no where.

I have read through this sites FAQs and forum and tried uninstalling/reinstalling the software several times, cleaning the discs, trying different discs and nothing corrects the issues.

I am extremely disgusted with quality and support of this product and feel as if I were robbed and tricked by spending the extra money on LightScribe products.

The words I am typing cannot express the deep regret and disgust I have for what LightScribe has misrepresented as usable and decent product because it is neither.

After 15 years of experience as a certified IT professional this is by far the most frustrating and disappointing product I have encountered.
