I have an Apricorn EZ writer with Lightscribe. I bought HP DVD-R and CD-R discs at the same time, from the same store. I can burn on both and print on the CDs with no problem. Whenever I try to burn a label on the DVD it says that there is not Lightscribe compatible disc in the drive and the disc is ejected. I ran the diagnostic utility and it said there were no conflicts. I also updated the Lightscribe software but that didn't work either. Anyone having the same issues or know how to solve this problem? These Lightscribe DVDs are expensive and I really don't know why they won't work. Thanks to anyone who can help.

DVDs have an extra layer of plastic over the light sensitive coating!
Try cleaning the LABEL side.

I tried cleaning the disc as well as trying another disc that had never been used yet with no luck. I box that comes up says no disc in drive, insert Lightscribe compatible disc label side down. I can print with no problem on the CDs which is weird. I even tried the same label design and it printed on the CD. My problem much be with the HP DVD-R discs. I just don't want to go buy more of another brand if those aren't going to work either.

You may have to try another brand, but try taking the disks back to the store & see if they'll exchange them or help you try other brands!
I can only find Memorex or HP media & only had a problem with the 1st 2 spindles of Memorex CDs.
Cleaning allowed recovery of all but 1 which had a bad DATA side.
