The Lightscribe (as well as the primary) laser lens is extremely delicate and should never be physically touched with any kind of handheld item.  Any deformation of the flexible lens can result in the inability to read or write data. Unfortunately I am unaware of any consumer level method of testing the functionality of the laser other than trying known a good disc in the drive.

The same thing happened to me too. I was using it. Changed disks to burn again and it won't recognize any of the Lightscribe disks I insert.  I haven't touched anything on the hardware.
