I'm a newbie on Lightscribe and am using the cover designer that comes with Nero 9.  It appears that I can only create a label that fits it a very narrow band donut around the DVD disk. Is that true? I can't seen to make this band any wider or to insert rectangular text boxes or images on the disk surface. Is my problem the (Memorex) disks I'm using, the Nero software, or is this the limitation of where Lightscribe can print?  It is so much more restrictive than when I printed paper laser labels.

Hi glieb !

I have Nero 9 and I was able to create a Disk Label with 4 Rectangular Text Boxes.

I'm a little confused on exactly what your writing about.

Could you document the steps you used so I can try to see what may be your problem?

I use the LS Template Labeler to burn labels and have developed 123 Custom Templates, a lot of which cover just about all of the LABEL side of the disk.

I've shared them with 118 Forum Users and have posted the OFFER several times.

I am a very newbie - to both Lightscribe and computers as a whole.

Lightscribe came with my new computer. Already on the list of various mentioned.

When I try to use it I am asked to place the Lightcriber disc in.  I dont have a disc.  I wasn't issued one with my new machine.

Can you help.  All I want to do is to type labels for my cd's.

What paper do I use by the way. Do I have to purchase cd/dvd label paper.  From where.

I really am very new to this so I hope yo receive this post.

I want to type names of songs on to a cd label.

I realised that Lightscribe came as part of my new computer so I tried it.

When I have completed names of songs etc, I press Print.

I am then asked to place my Lightscribe disc in.  I dont have one.  Where would I have got one of those from.  As I said, this software came with my computer already set up.

I am so confused.

Hi Pat !

You have to buy LightScribe compatible disks.

They have a special coating on the LABEL side that, when exposed to laser light, turn a shade of grayscale.

These media packages are specifically labeled with the word "LightScribe"; have the LS "swoosh"; and are V1.2.

As far as what you want to do:

How I create Labels Containing a Track List

I've put together some stuff I use to create CD Labels.

  • I wrote up the procedure I use in a PDF File.
  • I make PDF Files of any Documentation I create.
  • I have V1.14.32.1 of the LSS and since Version 1.17.90.1 of both the LSS and the corresponding Diagnostic Utility.
  • I include an "Additional Stuff" Folder which contains anything I create while developing My Custom Templates.
  • I created ZIP Files for 6 Windows Vista "Right-Click" Commands I developed to support this and other procedures I use.
  • I "ripped off" the "Template Playlist Beta" "Full" and "Half" Disk Templates; fixed them and create a ZIP File of the two templates.
  • I have a PDF that contains "Template vs. Simple Labelers" - a comparison of what is the structure of each template.
  • I found 5 FREE Tools I use for development, and have more I am testing.
  • I have a PDF which contains a "Mini Resume" and a lot of "LightScribe Stuff" I've researched.
  • I continually develop PDFs on the Tools I use for development.
  • I developed 123 Custom Templates for the Template Labeler.
  • I developed 5 collections of Images.
  • I developed a New Custom Wedding Template for one Forum User and I did one for another Forum User.
  • I fixed one LSL File for another User by changing a White Outline of some Text to Black.
  • I created Previews of all my Custom Templates and Images and have Catalogues of both as PDF Files.
  • I created 173 ICONS and a PDF Preview.
  • I developed 4 Test "borders" for the Simple Labeler.
  • I tend to concentrate on Filling the entire disk surface especially with TEXT, Bold, Outline, White Text, and More Font Control.
  • I have all this and more in My MS Windows Live Skydrive and on My Office Live Workspace.
  • I published 2 Newsletters and a List of Newsletter Topics about what I've been doing and 2 other FREE Programs I've been researching.
  • I have just finished designing 4 Custom Templates which use Circular Text Items and Circular, Oval, and Diamond Shaped Images.
  • I am studying the XML parts of the 2007 Versions of Microsoft Office Access, Excel, and Word,
  • I am sharing my work with 118 Forum Users.

Send me a Private MESSAGE containing:

  • Your correct E-mail Address (REQUIRED BY SITE to send links);
  • Your full name (For my records); and
  • A nickname you use (For my records).

I am retired on a disability, and I do this TOTALLY FREE.

I also try my best to keep E-mail Addresses confidential. I use "Blind Carbon Copies" when I send out anything.

I only occasionally send out Special Notifications, if I do something major.

The only "COST" is your E-mail Address which is REQUIRED both My MS Office Live Workspace and My Windows Live Skydrive to allow access to the stuff I've developed.

I just found out that:
If an Editor or Viewer of My Office Live Workspace forwards their E-mail "Invitation" to someone else, that person can use the link in the sharing "Invitation" to view a read-only version of my content.

Hi there!!!

I had the same problem and i found the root cause & solution.

By default Nero select a template which is simple template (a thin band in the middle of the disc) and then if you insert your background and track list and finally print it, you will get a print only on the small thin band.

What you can do to avoid this problem is first select "Free style" template and then put your background and track list and that will do it.

Good luck!

Me.

Happy Holidays erickdraven !

Pat already took my offer, but thank you for your post.  People have to post when they have success finding solutions.  I'm going to post an update to my offer:

Thank You erikdraven, you just saved me untold frustration. I could not work out what I was doing wrong. Every time I checked the preview it looked OK, but kept burning just a thin section of the disk, no matter how wide I made it.

A thousand thank yous.
