The LightScribe SDK is under a non-free license, so FLOSS distributions like Fedora, Debian, Gentoo or Ubuntu cannot support LightScribe out of the box. Is anyone aware of either specifications for LightScribe or free/libre open source software (FLOSS) implementations of LightScribe? It would be nice if there were some GPL software implementing LightScribe, or a LightScribe specification so that someone could implement GPLed LightScribe software. If you know of any way free software distributions can integrate LightScribe support, please post a comment on this blog post:

I'm also interested in this. I did install the 32 bit precompiled binaries on my 64 bit Linux system but have not tried it yet on my new LG BH08 drive as I don't have media yet.
I'm a bit surprised that HP wouldn't release an opensource version of this software, wouldn't the community do a much better job of spreading the word, making up to date binaries etc. ?
