to cut a long story short, acer are selling computers in australia that have labelflash dvd drives. suitable dvd's cannot be brought any where! quite a few people I have come across on forums are very irate, to say the least. acer have made every attempt to fob me off. I believe they are ripping some people off as some are buying acers because they want lablelflash capability. I have contacted fuji, verbatim & memorex to no avail. they advise that the discs are not being brought in australia. most people have never even heard of labelflash at all. I have an atapi DVD A DH16A6S SCSI CD ROM drive. I have not installed any labelflash software. can anybody tell me if this drive is suitable if I install lightscribe software? keeping in mind its a new computer & i dont want to void the warranty by taking guesses. any help would be greatly apreciatted. bob.

Hi firezone1au !
To the best of my knowledge LightScribe and LabelFlash are two different technologies that work basically the same way (the Read/Write Diode is used to burn the LABEL side of the disk).
Again, the best I know you can not use the same drive to do both.
I don't know what LabelFlash uses, but the Center or Hub Area of an LS disk has marks used for Media Detection, Positioning, and Timing.
Have you tried finding disks on the Internet?
Those companies may be able to ship disks into Australia.

Hi firezone1au, I know that the lightscribe diagnostic tool is what support uses to identify lightscribe drives. You would have to install the lightscribe software and the diagnostic to tell. The latest versions of the software uninstall cleanly not like old versions. The diagnostic creates a data file that you can post in a message.

Hi I ran into the exact same thing in Canada. Gave Future Shop a piece of my mind for selling p.c.'s with Label Flash when you can't get the media in Canada.( the salesman even used Label Flash as his selling tool) Future shop installed a lightscribe dvd burner at no charge and I got it back the same day!!!
