No LightScribe devices found?

I recently installed an HP DVD Writer 1061r via an external SATA to USB 2.0 drive enclosure. I installed the latest LightScribe driver (1.18.3.2), but the LS Control Panel app reports "No LightScribe devices found". The drive is visible in Windows and burns CDs with iTunes with no problem. I installed Nero 7 Essentials that came with the drive, but un-installed it soon after due to incredibly slow system performance. I would consider trying another labeling app, but I think the control panel app should see the LS drive before I install another app.

Any help or advise with this issue is greatly appreciated.

I ran the LsDiagnosticUtility_1.18.3.2.exe program and still no drive was found. I have the results saved to a file. How do I get this info to LS Support?

howdy.

you may like to try this:

click start>run.

type regedit, then click ok.

navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>CurrentVersion>Winlogon.

in the right hand pane find allocatecdroms.

the data value should be 0.

if it isn't,right click on allocatecdroms and choose Modify.

change the value to 0 then click OK.

exit the registry editor.

your lightscribe device should now be detected.

if it isn't,a restart of your computer may be required.

hope this helps.

My disk drive has the lightscribe logo on it but when I try to label a disk I get a message that no lightscribe drives were found.  Whats going on?

Hi stanley lord !

If it's an HP Drive, check inside the drive.  Some HP Drives have the Logo, but not the LightScribe Sensor.

The LightScribe Sensor is a small "block" near the hub.

Don't confuse it with the Read/Write Head which can move.

The Sensor CANNOT move.  There is a picture in the Knowledge Base under the LightScribe Toolbox above.

It may be a bit tricky to get a replacement from HP.

Hello

i have that happen,. too. What fixes it is re-booting. I have a notebook that I will take off the hardwire and use wi-fi. that disconnects it from the base which has the usb for printer etc. most things are not a problem, but my lg lightscribe burner gets fussy and won't be recognized. i think i is because it is only a usb connection, with no separate power adapter.

it's a headache rebooting but it reconnects all.

Hi gww  !

For the:

SOFTWARE\INTEL\Intel Application Accelerator - Not detected

I would suggest you need to go to the INTEL Website and see if they have a solution.

Somebody else in the Forum reported the same error, but I don't think a solution was posted.

You might also check in the "Knowledge Base" under the "LightScribe Toolbox" shown above and on all WebPages.

Hi,
Just installed Windows 7 RC1 (fully updated) on custom-built computer with 2 ASUS Lightscribe capable DVDRW drives.  I just downloaded and installed the most current LS system software, 1.18.4.1, but it only recognizes one of my burners!  The 16X IDE drive is recognized fine, but the 20X SATA drive is not listed in the LightScribe Control Panel.  Both drives work fine for reading data.  The OS install is so new I haven't burned any data/music/video yet, but it's printing a LightScribe label on the 16X drive right now just fine.  The labeling software is SureThing CD/DVD Labeler 5.1.616.0, and it seems to be working fine on the drive which the LightScribe software can see.

Any ideas on why LightScribe system software does not see the SATA drive?  Or how to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

System Specs:  EVGA 780i chipset mobo, 6GB DDR2 800 RAM, Intel Core2 Q6600 (stock speed), ASUS DRW-1612BL IDE burner, firmware 1.10 139, ASUS DRW-2014L1T SATA burner (can't see firmware), EVGA 8800GTS 640MB video card, Creative XFi XtremeGamer PCI sound card, PC Power & Cooling 750W Silencer PSU, Windows 7 RC1 on (2) 250GB SATA Western Digital HDD in RAID 1, Seagate 750GB SATA HDD for storage

Here is how I was able to install the latest LightScribe software on Windows 7, unlike Henk I am going to share with everyone on on how to install this software:

1. Go here to download the latest system software: http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadsection/Windows/index.aspx?id=810

2. Once downloaded double click on the *.exe file to run the installer.  Once it gets to the "operating system is not adequate" error, leave the window open and do not click "OK" just yet.

3. You will now have to navigate to the temporary directory to where the MSI file it extracted is.  This can be found in "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp".  In my case, it created a directory called "{494F8C6F-CB8A-4AF2-B85D-A238A88DB575}".

4. Copy the LS_HSI.msi file to some other location, then click on "OK" to that dialog box and the directory should automatically delete itself.

5. Next you will have to use a hex editor to edit the part of the installer where it checks the NT version.  I used XVI32 which is freeware.  Open the LS_HSI.msi file in the editor and go to the hexadecimal address "19C976" or alternatively search for VersionNT until you see 600.

6. Change VersionNT = 600 to 601. and save and exit.

7. The installer may complain about not having administrator rights for some reason.  I am in a domain environment so I right clicked the installer and ran it as "Administrator".

8. Repeat the same process for the Template Labeler program.  The hex address for the NT version is located at 57882.

9. Have fun burning labels again and be sure to thank the LightScribe developers for making a stupid operating system check!

I don't know if it will work or not, but I haven't seen anything that contradicts it!
