To zachysat zachy: why not try a ultility which enables the text\designs to come out darker than original all you have to do is look for it in the downloads section of the lightscribe.com web page. and then see if the quality doesn't improve spacechild

I recommend that you check if there is a firmware update for your optical drive. Firmware updates normally correct problems and improve drive performance, including better media recognition and burn quality. You may find updates for Lite-On drives on the following URL:
http://us.liteonit.com/us/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=75
Please check that you have the latest revision of the LightScribe system software. The LightScribe System Software is regularly updated and allows your drive to recognize new media and optimizes burning parameters for each different type of disc.
Did you try to run the software update from the download button provided on the LightScribe Software Update webpage? It was recently updated and version “1.14.19.1” released July 30, 2008 is now available. If not, please do so now.

To improve contrast, please try the following;
Open the LightScribe control panel. To do this, double click the LightScribe icon in the System Tray in the lower right corner of your Window or select Start/All Programs/LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling/LightScribe Control Panel and select the settings tab.
You may choose to increase the contrast of your labels by trading off some labeling time. Once this is set, it will remain in effect unless you change it, even with new LSS updates.
Although the print times will be longer, we recommend that you use the "Enhanced" mode to give you the best print quality. This may take about half an hour, but you can just let it print in the background and do other things on your computer.
Tips:
Another method that sometimes helps is to do some pre-processing of the image in a Photo tuning program. By increasing the contrast of the image or converting it to black and white, the higher black density can result in a higher contrast output.
Double Printing:
You can also print the same disc a second time to get a darker contrast.
The trade off of the multiple printing is the slight banding seen in the dark areas. This is a result of the concentric tracks not perfectly aligned with tracks from previous printing. Depending on the amount of overlap between the successive tracks, a banding pattern may be noticed. This may be more apparent on some drives than others due to manufacturing variability.

I've just burnt my first lightscribe label and I'm a little bit disapointed: The label looks matt and not as shiny or metallic as I expected. I installed the latest version of LightScribe Template Labeler and enabled the high quality mode. The background picture also has been enhanced in contrast before. Looking at the blank DVD I see that it also has a matt bronze surface. But I thought that it'll look nicer after burning. Are there any metallic looking DVDs available or have they all to be matt to prevent reflections of the laser ray during burning? @ JOHN: You suggest double burning to increase the contrast. How can I be sure that the position of the second burn phase is coincident to the first one?

Hi Juergen Dahm !
You do not have anything to worry about!
The Hub on LS disks have Positioning and Timing marks. You can even remove and replace the disks and only get a little bit of blurring. The disks can take multiple burnings, but no mater how dark the label is initially it will fade due to the lack of the protective coating the "commercially distribution" disk have.
The disks are also available in 5 different colors, but the Image is just grayscale on the colored background. You have to look a bit hard to find any one color in quantity. They normally sell all 5 colors in a 25 pack (5 of each color).
Hope that helps!
