CD Isn't being detected.

 I'm very computer illiterate and I've tried my best to go through the FAQ and help-things in my program and on your website but I just can't figure it out.

So basically, I have a design for my Lightscribe CD ready.. I have my Lightscribe CD.. I have the songs burned onto it... but when I'm ready to print my design, my program says "A LightScribe disc was not found in the drive."

I'm sure I haven't given enough detail for you guys to pinpoint the problem, so if there's anything you need to ask.. I'll be glad to answer lol.

 If your drive was working properly before and the problem started with a new package of discs, the most likely cause is some defective media.

Please try to detect different discs from the same spindle using the diagnostic utility.

You can download the LightScribe Diagnostics Tool for Windows (Vista/XP/2K) from the following URL:

Choose the Advanced View on the toolbar. Insert different LightScribe discs from the same package label side down, and then click on "Get System Info" and then "Scan for LightScribe Drive and Media"

If the majority of the spindle is not recognized, you should return or exchange the media.

You should inspect the discs for defects, smudges, or scratches. The center pinwheel feature of the disc contains timing functions as well as identification "bar code" information that the drive must be able to read.

Check if there is a firmware update available for your optical drive. Firmware updates normally correct problems and improve drive performance, including better media recognition and burn quality.

Wipe both the label and data sides of the LightScribe disc with a water-damped soft cloth, especially the pinwheel features at the center of the disc and retry using the same disc. Sometimes recognition errors are recoverable with subsequent tries.

The LightScribe system software update allows your drive to recognize new media. The current LightScribe system software version should enable and enhance media recognition for ALL currently available retail media.

Please run the software update from the download button provided on the LightScribe Software Update webpage. It was recently updated and now has version “1.12.37.1” available.

I've downloaded the diagnostics tool and it failed to detect any media. I tried detecting every disc too.

I also updated Lightscribe Software and after that it still didn't detect any media.


The only thing I don't know what to do is updating my firmware. How do I do that?

I appreciate your help!

 what brand of lightscribe media and what brand of cd/dvd-burner are you using?? Fact is that LG-Drives cannot work with HP-Media. I had a whole batch of unrecognizable discs. In my Samsung they work like a charm. It does not have to be a defective batch of media.

 Hi everybody!
I have the same problem as Tom. I have LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H20L 1.02 124 and it doesn't detect any new Verbatim DVD+R 16x Lightscribe media.

I have the last firmware update and LSS installed on my computer...

Oh, and one more thing. These new Verbatim discs are color discs. But I had golden discs too, and with them I didn't have any problems...

 LG drives are very picky with the media. that's why I changed to Samsung drives. they do almost every brand.

 I am using Nero 9, ASUS DRW-1814BL and Verbatim DVD+R discs

Every time I try to burn an image using Nero Cover Designer-Lightscribe, a message comes up saying No disc in drive. Please insert a LightScribe disc into the drive with the label side facing down.
I downloaded the LightScribe latest update and used the latest LightScribe Diagnostic Utility, but nothing works.

 People, I found a solution after trying everything. All you need is to install .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 or higher. Normal 2.0 will cause problem.

Hi Folks  !

After all the Posts I've seen, I think the LightScribe Support Folks MUST INCLUDE ALL THE SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS ON THE DOWNLOAD PAGE!!!!!

So far it looks like:

  • The Version of .NET MUST be V2.0 SP1 or higher; and
  • The C++ Run Time Library MUST be "UP-TO-DATE".
  • There are probably other things too.

This is just a start!
