Just downloaded the latest version of Lightscribe. As always, with my CD burner laser, the first try is too faint to read. Running it again prints darker but completely misaligned with original text. The old version worked fine doing this. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Directions say new print should be aligned with old. Thanks

I can't think of anything you could be doing wrong. The timing marks on the CD/DVD disc are supposed to align the first and subsequent burns and make relabeling possible. Any chance you went through a shutdown & restart after the first burn? Windows does alot of configuration and registry changes after a software or hardware change when the machine is shut down and restarted the first time after the installation. Just a thought but if that is the cause in your case that problem will go away. Hate to even think the new version is flawed but time will tell on that. What labeling program are you using?

What labeling program are you using?....

Not sure I know what this means?  I'm writing about and using Lightscribe Template Labeler 1.18.15.1  as far as I know Windows didn't re-boot or change in any way. I hate to waste CD's but I'll try again. Any idea why Lightscribe old and new always prints the first disc of a run too light to read, then subsequent new discs fine? It's like the laser has to warm up!

Yes the labeling program was what I was asking about...Go to the lightscribe Control Panel and change the contrast setting to "enhanced". The labels will be darker but a second burn may still be desired to make it still darker. As far as why the labels are not darker I believe that since the Lightscribe laser used is the same laser as the data burning laser the power supplied to the laser is conservative to preserve longevity. At least this choice does not shorten the drive life. If your system prints the first disc light but all sucessive discs darker that is an action I have not yet seen. Reburning the same disc twice is a common practice.

Here is a link to the Control Panel instructions:

You should shut down and restart your system after you install any new program or hardware device. The registry and configuration changes aren't seen by the user and in some cases are necessary to avoid conflicts.

Found a method to write a perfect, easy to read CD on one try without having to over-write and see misaligned text. I first use an old scrap LS disc to "warm up" my laser. Then when I write the new CD, and all the rest of the CD's in a run, everything is perfect on the first try. No idea why my laser needs warming up but it does. And from reading the comments it seems a lot of people have to run a CD twice to get it to look right. Try this trick if you are spending time running your discs twice and/or getting misalignments.
