I have a compaq presario with the dvd multi drive which I use to my data system backups only, this compact dvd disc drive called lightscribe which can read and write to dvd+rw/ dl and is compatible with viewing picturse  ,  what ever,   has not worked since i bought the compaq presario sr5023wm and HEWLETTE PACKARD AND WINDOWS HAS REFUSED TO HELP WITH,  SO MAYBE YOU CAN HELP SINCE THIS IS YOUR PRODUCT,  IT WILL NOT READ MUCH LESS WRITE AND I NEED TO MAKE SYSTEM BACKUPS IMMEDIATELY

I'm just a retired person, like yourself, but I've had 35 years experience with computers of all types and just as many operating systems.  I know where you're coming from on the issue of backups.

I have a few questions:

I assume you're saying the DATA isn't working from your comments about needing to make backups.  Is that correct?  If it is, the problem may be a bad drive.

If the DATA is OK, is the problem with the LABEL?  The processes are done on different sides of the disk.  Are you saying you can't burn a LABEL?  That shouldn't effect making backups.

What are you using for each?  What is your DATA burning software?  What is your LABEL burning software?

What versions of the software are you using?

What operating system are you running?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need to understand the exact nature of your problems!
